Back to the Grind Castor Oil Challenge – Week 2 Check-In

08/29/2013 | By | More

Okay, we’re two weeks down. Hope everyone is being consistent with their castor oil application and cleansing routine. Remember, those of you who missed the registration date, it’s too late for you to be an official competitor for the grand prize, but you can always do the competition “unofficially” and chart your progress along with the rest of us. Everyone is welcome to participate in whatever form works.

Official competitors are required to log into the site and respond to at least 10 of the 13 weeks of check-ins we’ll be doing the challenge. For each check-in you will post your answers to a few questions, or share your thoughts on a situation we’ll present for discussion.

Week Two: Check In Questions

Answer these questions in your post below to officially “check in” as we conclude week two of the Back to the Grind castor oil challenge.

  1. Do people ask you lots of questions about your natural hair? What do you typically say in response?
  2. Lots of naturals are really into cowashing their hair…what is your favorite product for cowashing? How about regular hair washing?
  3. What have been your biggest challenges with the castor oil challenge thus far?

That’s it for this week. We’ll be checking the post and noting who “checked in” for the “Back to the Grind” castor oil challenge on our spreadsheet. If you have any questions about the castor oil challenge, feel free to post them in this thread. Someone will get back to you as quickly as possible. First picture check-in will be in two weeks.

Stay natural!

  1. #1. No people do not ask a lot of questions. They just look, I can tell they want to ask something but they refrain.

#2. I am not into co-washing. I tend to use shampoos because.

    1. Me n my manager always talk about natural hair hence that she is natural as well….I get mostly compliments n I just say thank you :) no one really ask me about it tho

    2. I’m still experimentin on cowashes but so far I love as I am and pantene cowash

#1. No one asks a lot of questions. They may say “oh you are wearing your hair natural now” but that is about it.

#2. I am slowly phasing out co-washes. Shampoos work best for me. I don’t use a lot of products but I like the idea that when I wash my hair, it is getting rid of product build-up.

#3. No challenges. I was oiling my scalp before. Just was not according to a schedule.

    1. A few people compliment me on my hair and want to know what I put on it to make it that way. I also get asked if it is hard to manage. I don’t mind answering them with what I used and no, it’s not really hard to manage for me!

    2. I used a co-wash bar a few weeks ago from Cream and Coco (a friend let me have) OMG – my hair was SO soft afterwards, and more manageable. The co-wash bar is the way to go!

    3. Biggest challenges? If anything, it’s making sure I don’t use too much. I have a lot of hair, so I’m trying to find what is enough.

  5. MrsGrizzly says:

#1-Other than the occasional compliment on how going natural “fits my personality,” I don’t really get a lot of questions.

#2-I’m not a co-washer, but within the next month I will pick it up and may try As I Am Coconut Cowash.

#3-I have yet to find a challenge, maybe a little bump; the smell…I have to make sure that I don’t smell too oily when going out and about.

  6. kkmpd_1 says:

    1. A lot of people ask what do I use in my hair to keep it so healthy and thick. I usually tell them I don’t use anything but a protective style, argan oil and castor oil.
    2. I do cowashing once a week usually Wednesday for my co washes I use HH. I also wash my hair once a week usually on Friday in my shampoo I add baking soda, aloe vera juice and jojoba oil for a super cleanse.
    3. Due to me being in the military I am always super tired once I get off of work sometimes I skip a day or two.
