Back to the Grind Castor Oil Challenge – Week 5 Check-In

09/20/2013 | By | More

Everyone has until noon on Saturday September 21st to check in since I’m tardy AGAIN. Remember, you are supposed to miss no more than two check-ins during the castor oil challenge so I hope you all make it this time.week5

Remember, your goal… the reason you joined this castor oil challenge is to support longer hair growth and increased thickness over this 12 week period.  Normal hair growth averages 1/2″ per month, sometimes more with the added boost of castor oil. Participants should not expect to have Pocahontas length hair in a mere three months, however we can assure you that by following the Back to the Grind Castor Oil Challenge guidelines and applying castor oil at least 3x weekly, you’ll see many positive changes in your hair thickness, softness and length.

If you’ve already missed one check-in, you’ll have to be very diligent about coming to the site every Friday/Saturday to answer the check in questions. Last week we passed the one-month mark. Please upload a progress photo of the area of your hair that has changed the most … your biggest trouble spot – edges, crown, nape of neck, etc.

Week Five: Check In Questions

Answer these questions in your post below to officially “check in” as we conclude week five of the Back to the Grind castor oil challenge.

  1. What is your favorite “go-to” style to wear your natural hair for work? For evenings out? For play?
  2. A natural shared that her father frequently tells her that her hair looks “nappy” and that he doesn’t like the natural look. An older guy in his 70s, he prefers black women to wear their hair straightened. How do your relatives and friends feel about you being natural?
  3. Are you more or less consistent with your castor oil usage than you were at the beginning of the Challenge? What do you think changed?

That’s it for this week. We’ll be checking the post and noting who “checked in” for the “Back to the Grind” castor oil challenge on our spreadsheet. If you have any questions about the castor oil challenge, feel free to post them here. Someone will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Stay natural!

#1-It’s a twist-out; jazzed up or down as needed!

#2-They seem to love it. Coming from a household that permed/hot-combed religiously, I’ve had more positive reviews than ever.

#3-I’m more consistent since I’ve seen a change in my hair during this short period of constant usage.

    1) I keep my hair braided it’s very neat and easy to maintain during transition.
    2) There are some who don’t like it and some love it. A lot of people still have that mentality that black hair is nappy I receive more compliments from those that are not my color than those of color. My family is amazingly supportive some of them are even trying to go natural :-).
3)I’m more consistent I love the new hair growth. I have grown 2 inches so far.

    1. I wear my hair up in a puff over my head or I just push it back with a Q puff band.

    2. My friends and relatives like it.

    3. Was less consistent this week. Have a lot of my plate so to speak.
